Electrocarboxylation of Spiropyran Switches through Carbon‐Bromide Bond Cleavage Reaction

This manuscript deals with carbon capture and utilization to synthetize high-added chemicals using CO 2 as a C1-organic building block for C-C bond formation. The study focuses on the electrocarboxylation of 1,3,3-trimethylindolino-6'-bromobenzopyrylospiran switch ( Br-BIPS ). Prior process, electrochemical reduction mechanism is disclosed in polar aprotic solvents two different cathodes (glassy silver) under nitrogen atmosphere. Once role cathode carbon-bromide cleavage understood, carboxylated spyropiran derivatives can be synthesized moderate yields conversion rates through an process silver solvents. "green" efficient route described current work would open new sustainable strategy designing “smart” surfaces switchable physical properties.
